How to Get Balanced News to Reduce News anxiety
Get background and historical context on News stories to reduce news anxiety
In today’s hyper-connected world one thing that you can’t escape is the News.
With hundreds of 24x7 NEWS channels and media outlets trying to compete for your attention with breaking news coming every few minutes this information overload has become a major source of anxiety.
Just in time reporting and journalism although have some advantages, on the other side it does not give reporters and journalists enough time to research and fact check and can become a source of fake or inaccurate news.
If you feel the same and need to go on a quality news diet, I suggest checking out these two websites.
1. Sift News Therapy
I recently came across Sift and highly recommend it to everyone.
It’s a mobile app that focuses on providing readers the backstory and history of some of the most highly divisive political issues like Gun & Climate control.
With so much misinformation floating around on the internet, Sift tells stories that are highly researched & fact-based, all while staying neutral and unbiased. Their goal is to reduce news anxiety.
One feature that I really like about their stories is that they put multiple-choice questions related to the story in the article. The unique thing about these questions is that most of the time you will think that you know the answer based on what has been fed to us by various sources (News/Internet/Discussions with friends). However, when you select those answers most of the time you would be wrong. Proving how much misinformation is out there.
2. All Sides
Are you the type of person who likes to understand both opposing views on any political topic? Then you should check out All Sides.
For any news story, all sides provide you links to left, center & right-leaning media houses. This way you get a perspective from all sides. This also shows how unbiased the media is as the same story is told differently from different news & media outlets based on their political inclinations.
